Good Food, Good Friends, Good Fun!

Though there weren’t all that many fish caught, and the weather was anything but cooperative, Drum Run 2005 was an absolute blast!

T.J. and I made it to the beach around daylight and didn’t see anyone milling around yet so we ran down the beach to move and mark a dolphin that came in Friday. He was huge (9’2” Bottlenosed) so it took a little longer than anticipated. By the time we made it back down to the Drum Run site, people were setting up.

There were a few hits and misses and finally T.J. hooked up. He quickly handed the rod off to Brandon and the fight was on.

Report Image

After a few minutes of “tug-o-war” Brandon landed this nice 42” Bull Red that weighed in at 28 lbs. 10 oz. A big congratulations to Brandon for his biggest fish so far!

Report Image

A short while later Sarah hooked a nice red that self-released itself as it was being leadered. This fish appeared to be at least 38” or so. That was enough to get her pumped up though! During all of that, we noticed some other commotion a few rods down. We assumed Josh was leadering another red but it turned out to be this instead.

Report Image

Apparently the gull wasn’t very photogenic, because as soon as I snapped the picture I heard, “Let go!” None the less, the gull was also safely released (after he released Josh).

After all this work, everyone was starting to get a little hungry. It was a good thing Robert had arrived with a big ole pot and loads of potatoes, crawfish boil and “slap ya mama.” Bait soon became lunch! Even the new “Texan by way of Pennsylvania,” Tony, got in on the fun.

Report Image

Apparently all the smells of boiled crawfish wafted out to sea and got the drum a little hungry too. Not long after the feast, Sarah was hooked up to a really ugly “Big Ugly.”

Report Image

A short while later, we looked down the beach and saw that Tony was hooked up. After a brief battle, Tony landed this nice red.

Report Image

No sooner had Tony released his red when we saw that Sarah was hooked up again! Sarah must have been doing something right because she landed yet another big ugly.

Report Image

I’m guessing that Sarah will be making a few trips down from Dallas from here on out! Things kind of hit a lull at this point so Michael broke out his washerboard set. The tournament was on!

Report Image

I don’t really know what the final tallies ended up being, but it was fun!

Just as it started getting dark, there was another good run and this time, the rod went to Alexis.

Report Image

This little lady fought that fish just like a pro. She made landing a fish that was just about as big as her look easy. This is Alexis’s biggest fish to date.

Report Image

By this point, it was getting pretty dark and the temps were dropping so everyone started packing up. Even though conditions were less than ideal, there was still a great turnout. We had people from all over the state show up!

It was a great time and it was a pleasure meeting all of you! Until next year…
