All day Friday Galen and Jimk fished for bait while I was tied
up at school. They ended up with 10 sheephead and a 26" Drum for bait and
Galen caught a 28.5" trout on live shrimp. We met up on the west end at about
5 and had six rods yakked out with sheephead by 6:30. I also cast a large
whitting head on my 3/0 from the second bar. Just as it was getting dark
we starteed getting runs. Jim was the first to hook up ans shortly after
landed this 5'7" blacktip.
Soon after that Galens 6/0 starts running and he is hooked up.
His fish gets tangled in Jims other line and eventually gets off. As that's
going on my 3/0 starts running and I'm hooked up on what I initially thought
to be a good shark. As I get it neared the first bar it just stoped, at this
point I knew I had a large ray. After about 25-30 min I beach a ray in excess
of 100 lbs. After a quick picture (which didn't turn out) I released her.
As I was dealing with the ray, Jim caught a 4'8" blacktip. Next my 4/0 ran
a bit and I was on a decent fish that ended up being a 5'3" blacktip. As
I was pulling it on the beach my 6 starts screaming. Jim released the blacktip
for me and I was hooked up on a good fish that was steadily taking line.
After an almost 40 minute tough fight I land this heavy 7'3" sandbar.

When we got up Saturday the SE wind was howling and the surf
was significantly rougher than the day before. We drove down by the pass
to see what the water looked like and met Pelican and Neverenough, who had
some rods out. We got back to the house and began running baits out at about
1:30. Soon after it was non-stop action on blacktips. I landed the first,
a 4'10"
At nearly the same time, Jim got a 4'8" blacktip. At about 3:30
Jim hooks up again but on a better fish this time. Here is the 5'10" blacktip
he ended up landing.
The next bit of excitement was Galen's 6 getting cut off by
a windsurfer. Around 4:30 my 6/0 goes off. Immediatley I saw it was a blacktip,
as it was jumping like crazy out there. I also noticed it was fighting alot
harder than most blacktips I have caught, and shortley after I beach a 6'1"
blacktip
The last fish of the day went to Galen around 6:00 with this 4'10" blacktip.
Jim left the 26" drum out on his super six until about midnight and it came
in untouched.
