YT, Troy and a good crew headed offshore early Saturday. After
hitting one spot without any knockdowns, we moved further offshore. After
we put out a nice spread, Dr. Rob Williams caught a nice (15-18#) blackfin,
the first we had seen trolling since April.
About an hour later, Christian got another blackfin about 15#. Trevor then
picked up a 20-25# wahoo (number 64 for the boat this year).
About 3:30, one of the 50's next to me started screaming, and
we looked up to see a marlin going ballistic. I grabbed the rod and settled
in for a nice 40 minute standup fight. After the initial jumps, the fish
stayed down. Troy was the first to note that the fish was acting funny and
was probably tailwrapped. Sure enough, we got him to the boat and he was
wrapped up in the wind-on leader.
After removing the hook, we got a rough measurement of 113".
Since he had been hogtied by the leader, we then carefully revived him before
release. We picked up one more blackfin before calling it an epic day.
Since the fish was so wrapped in the leader, we HAD TO BRING
HIM ON BOARD to free him for release.
As always, thanks YT and Troy for another great day on the NYATI.
